Data values

Values are what flows work with: text, numbers, members, roles, channels, messages, yes/no and lists.

Where values come from

The trigger gives values about what happened. Steps give values about what they did (the thread they made, the message they sent). Value nodes, the ones with no white pins, work out new values from others.

Value nodes

Text, maths, compare and convert nodes run only when a step needs their answer. They never wait or send anything, so they can be wired into as many steps as you like.

Variables

To keep a value between runs, store it in a variable (Set variable) and read it back later. Variables live on the server, per member or for everyone.

Variables in any setting

A setting that isn't text, like a role, a channel, a colour, Show separately or a Type, also takes one variable typed in on its own: {setting.staff_role}, {trigger.colour}, {var.kind}. It's filled in and checked when the step runs, and a value that doesn't fit stops the run with a line saying why. A role or channel can also be typed by name, like Moderator or @everyone; if the server has no role by that name, the run says so.

Blank options

A command option nobody filled in reads as empty, so "Note: {trigger.note}" shows "Note: ". A name no trigger gives, like a typo, stays as typed so you can spot it.
