First questions

Adding the bot, why it asks for permissions, what's free, and what to do when it doesn't answer.

How do I add the bot?

Sign in with Discord, then press Add bot next to your server. You need Manage Server (or to own the server) to see it there. Discord opens its own page: check the server name and press Authorize. Come back to this tab; if the server still says Add bot, refresh the page.

Why does it ask for permissions?

Add bot asks for what the bot's features use: making channels and roles, posting and reading messages, threads, moderation (timeouts, kicks, bans, deleting messages), emoji and stickers, webhooks, events and nicknames. Discord shows you the whole list before you press Authorize. It never asks for Administrator. If a setup needs something that is missing, the page names it and gives you one tap to add it.

What's free?

Everything can be built and tried in Test for free. Free also goes live in 1 server you pick on your Account page: 2,000 runs a month, 10 slash commands and events, and a "Made with Elementium" line on its messages. The Pricing page lists what each plan adds.

The bot doesn't answer

Check four things. Is the bot in the server (your server list says Add bot if not)? Did you press Publish? Is this your live server (Free runs live in one; the others stay in Test)? Can the bot see and write in that channel, and is its role above any role it gives out?

It says it can't join new servers

Discord lets a new bot into 100 servers until Discord finishes reviewing it. While that review is waiting, Add bot says so instead of sending you to a Discord page that refuses. Servers that already have the bot keep working. Try again later; your account and anything you built are kept.
